Baska, a popular tourist destination on the Island of Krk, now has yet another high-category hotel – Hotel Atrium Residence Baska, classified as four and five stars. The hotel was built in the place of the former hotels Baska and Velebit. The total value of the investment is 56 million HRK. The hotel has 64 accommodation units, and its luxury suites have a five-star standard. Over the past few years, Hoteli Baska invested almost 100 million HRK in construction and renovation of its facilities, including the annex to Hotel Zvonimir transformed into Hotel Zvonimir, Adria annex transformed into Villa Adria with 12 apartments, reconstruction of Camp Zabla?e and the naturist camp Bunculuka.

The investment also provided for reconstruction of Hotel Baška-Corinthia and the most recent reconstruction of the said Hotel Atrium Residence Baska. The hotel complex was enriched with modern wellness facilities, a multipurpose congress area, and other facilities providing the guests with a pleasant stay. Baska happens to be a tourist center with a long-standing tradition. The beginnings of organized tourism date back to 1904, and the bathing area was developed and formally opened exactly one hundred years ago. The strong tourist orientation is confirmed by the fact that six hotels operated in Baška in 1914, and three more opened before 1930. Recommendations for hotels Krk.

Erschienen am: 01.10.2008

This season, restaurants and hotels in the tourist centers of Crikvenica, Selce, Dramalj and Jadranovo will offer tourists some thirty autochthonous Crikvenica dishes. Their originality is confirmed by a certificate issued by the Gastronomy Committee comprising experienced chefs and restaurant operators. The project is entitled Autochthonous Cuisine of Crikvenica – Our Intangible Heritage, and it certified the autochthonous cuisine and restaurants in the town of Crikvenica.

The project was organized by the Town of Crikvenica, the Town Tourist Board, and the Gastronomy Committee that decided to refresh the gastronomic offer of Crikvenica by food from the past. Unique in Croatia, this project is a contribution to the celebration of 120 years of tourism in Crikvenica. It is important to say that the chefs who wanted the certificate were required to pass a gastronomic course. 25 chefs, eight hotels and ten restaurants they work in were awarded the certificate. To maintain
the quality of the facilities and offerings, the certificate is issued for only a year, and the course for preparation of certified
Crikvenica dishes will be held every year for new interested chefs and restaurant operators. The presentation of the project dealing with the autochthonous cuisine of Crikvenica is number twenty in a series of quality cultural tourism projects organized by the Cultural Tourism Business Club, established in 2004 by the Association for Cultural Tourism attached to the Croatian Chamber of Economy. Apoxiomen in the ancient city

Erschienen in: Croatia,Culture,Island,Krk,Kvarner,Sightseeing
Erschienen am: 01.10.2008

After a voyage through many cities in Croatia, the famous statue of Apoxiomen will be on display in the Ethnographic Museum in Split until the end of September. The magnificent ancient statue of a young athlete dating back to the 2nd century B.C. has not ceased to attract the attention of domestic and international public ever since its discovery. In 1996, a Belgian tourist spotted the statue underwater next to the islet of Vela Orjula not far from Mali Losinj, after which it was extracted from the sea and restored by experts from the Croatian Conservation Institute with support of experts from Florence. The statute has so far been exhibited in Zagreb, Osijek and Rijeka, and it has also taken a trip to Florence where around eighty thousand visitors saw it.

The statue is considered to be a true masterpiece of ancient art, it is fully preserved, and was most probably made by Lysippus, a famous ancient sculptor. It is one of the few large preserved Greek bronze statues in the world – a similar one was found in Ephesus in the 19th century and is currently in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, while a head without the body is kept in Texas. There are several more replicas of Apoxiomen in the world, but they are made of different materials. After it completes its voyage across Croatia, the unique statue of Apoxiomen will be permanently exhibited in Mali Losinj, in the area where it was found.

Treasure Hunt – A new tourist product

Erschienen in: Croatia,Culture,Krk,Kvarner
Erschienen am: 01.10.2008

Visitors to the town of Krk on the island of Krk in the region of  Kvarner have conceived a boat excursion called the Treasure Hunt, based on this region’s history. The legend of the pirates dates back to the times when Krk was a target to tradesmen from all continents. As it happens, a horrible robbery took place at sea in front of Krk in 1524, during which the Pirates of Plavnik intercepted a commercial galley carrying valuable cargo in the strait between the two islands. The smoke from the burnt ship alarmed the duke’s guard who sank the pirate ship, while the only surviving pirate managed to save himself by swimming to the island of Plavnik where he buried the most valuable things from the robbed ship. All track of the pirate was lost, and years later he sought a guide to take him to Plavnik. His intention was frustrated by an unsuccessful hunt for him, which only resulted in a mysterious map containing instructions on how to get to the buried treasure. Despite the fact that the duke put a high price on his head, the search for the treasure continues. The staging of the event, from the maritime battle in Krk Port to the pirate attack, is a two-day introduction to a daylong excursion to the island of Plavnik – in addition to pirate bandannas, the participants will also be provided with a map containing the position of the mysterious treasure.

Even if they fail to find the buried valuables, the excursionists will surely benefit from the trip. The Treasure Hunt excursion, conceived by the Krk Tourist Board and the Tourist Shipper Subsection of the Sole Traders Association of Krk, will be arranged on a weekly basis or as requested by closed groups. Autumn in the outdoors

Erschienen in: Croatia,Culture,Kvarner,Tourism
Erschienen am: 18.10.2007

After the summer attractions and numerous cultural events staged in the territory of the Municipality of Jelenje, situated in the Rijeka hinterland, the local tourism professionals are getting themselves ready for the autumn tourism season – attractive on account of the autumn-coloured landscapes.

There is, therefore, no lack of news again this year. The first tourism guidebook of the region was recently published, acquainting tourists with the most beautiful natural localities, the wealth of history, the cultural points of interest, accommodation capacities and sporting events, the best of which is the automobile racing track in Grobnik. The guidebook features a detailed map and all of the key service information that could be of interest to tourists.

As of this autumn, along with the existing attractions, tourists can also tour the new Heritage Museum (Zavicajni muzej) in Martinovo selo. Situated next to an attractive mill, the Heritage Museum portrays a rich ethnological collection of the entire region – especially attractive is the kitchen, which appears to have sprung forth from the 18th century. Tourists will be able to see a collection of old implements, weapons, folk garb, clothing, traditional decorations, tools and household utensils.

Old paraphernalia, customs and trades, which tourists can see for themselves if they visit an old blacksmith‘s shop in Drazice, are just a small part of the tourism offer in the Grobnik area. That is precisely why several new specialised guidebooks are in the works, like a guidebook for cyclists, already in print, and brochures that will acquaint alpinists and interested hikers with the most attractive outdoor locations in the area, among which are most certainly the Rjecina River, which has become a favourite place for gatherings of fishers and excursion-goers, and the alpine house on Hahlic.

Lujzijana and Karolina roads by carriage

Erschienen in: Croatia,Excitement,Gorski Kotar,Kvarner,Tourism
Erschienen am: 04.10.2007

With the send-off of a caravan procession from Opatija that passed the old roads leading to the interior came the close of this year‘s Summer on the Lujzijana and Karolina Roads culture and tourism event. In the past these roads were used to transport passengers from the Kvarner coast to Karlovac and Zagreb by carriage, passing through the Gorski kotar area, under the peaks of Risnjak and Bjelolasica, and along the stunning Kupa and Dobra rivers.

Developing this thematic route for tourism today vividly illustrates the significance of these roads in the development of Primorje (the littoral region), Gorski kotar (the highlands) and Pokuplje (the Kupa River basin). These traffic routes were once also used as key caravan routes used in the transport of spice and other vital goods, marking various cultural periods – from the period of the Dukes Frankopan and Zrinski, Emperor Carlo VI, Empress Maria Theresa and Joseph II during whose rule the Karolina was constructed, right up to Austrian Emperor Francis I, the Napoleonic wars and more.

The Delnice-based Lujzijana Association is the organiser of the entire project, which launched the project in 2006, and whose realisation will run through to 2013. Also in the works is their linking with other Croatian and international thematic routes, where the „Lujzijana and Karolina in the Network of European and Tourism Routes“ will be a Southeastern Europe pilot project.

There are a total of 20 towns on the thematic route, linked by fast modern highways, starting with Opatija in the Kvarner area, where the info point is located, to Zagreb in the country‘s interior. Each of the towns on the route feature a wealth of history, offering travellers a number of local points of interest and an offer of various attractive tourism and hospitality facilities.

Explore the Island of Krk by bike

Erschienen in: Island,Krk,Kvarner,Tourism
Erschienen am: 26.09.2007

One of the largest islands in the Croatian part of the Adriatic – the Island of Krk – is unique for many a reason. Arriving on the island and situating yourself in one location is a big mistake because in this was you miss out on the opportunity of getting acquainted with the rich island heritage which can also be easily explored by bike.

Krk has a surface area of about 400 square kilometres, its highest peak Obzova is located at a height of 569 metres, and the whole island has 68 settlements. Given the abundance of island locations and activities, the bicycle track construction project which is about 130 kilometres long is drawing to a close and will in this simple way connect nearly all the island attractions.

The “Island transversal” which is the name given to the track, is actually a synthesis of all existing walking-bicycle tracks which with additional construction, mutual linking, marking and mapping with the aid of the GPS system, have resulted in the creation of a very attractive bicycle track. The majority of the track passes through the most attractive areas of Krk – pristine nature in whose vicinity many cultural-historical monuments and archaeological localities are located.

Krk abounds in many natural phenomena, caves like Biserujka near Dobrinja. The coastline is also well indented – with numerous coves, sandy beaches and bays of which the bay Soline particularly stands out with its medicinal mud.

There are two lakes on the island – Jezero and Ponikva, and three rivers – Veli or Dobrinjski potok (stream), Vretenica and Vela Rika. Also especially attractive are the Krk ornithological reserves which are home to the griffon – on the small island of Prvic which is located right next to Krk and on the north-eastern steep part of the coast of the Island of Krk.
