Novi Vinodolski is an attractive tourist town, far known for its beautiful sandy and rocky beaches, a one hundred year old park, rich vegetation, country villas and luxury apartments and hotels which are visited by tourists from all over the world.

It is located in the middle part of the northen Croatian coast, and has developed from an old Frankish fort called Novigrad and spread along the coast.

Novi Vinodolski is characterized by the coastal architecture of white fronts and red rooftops that rise above the old city core, from sea level to the church and tower on the hill, high above the city's conture.

Because of its beauty, closeness and extremely good infrastructure, this city attracts more tourists from year to year. The Adriatic tourist road connects Novi Vinodolski across Rijeka with central Europe and is located at the end of a road that leads through an area of high black forests of Kapela, the shortest route across Ogulin that connects continental Croatia with the sea.

This is a city of exceptional history, populated since the ancient times, with many monuments of culture from that period, among which are the walls of the Roman fort Lopsica, then the remains of the Pauline monestary, the Frankish castle with a tower, the church of the Holy Trinity and St. Marina on the island of the same name, the house of the Mažuranić brothers, the Heritage museum and the gallery, and the old city centre.

In the city centre there is a Frankish castle with a square tower which houses a modernly decorated National library founded in 1845.

The Korzo in Novalja is one of the most beautiful coastal streets which with its futuristic and unusual wavey look especially intrigues visitors and tourists. Throughout the whole year the Korzo is a sort of a «living room» to the people of Novalja and many tourists. Thanks to the evergreen vegetation and mild conditions of the mediterranean area, clean sea and air, Novi Vinodolski was in 1878., after Opatija, included on the list of tourism pioneers of the coastal area.

The city has a mild and healthy mediterranean climate with mild and pleasant warm and sunny summers, with the daily temperature moderated by the light winds coming from the sea. A small coastal village with only about 200 inhabitants is located only 2 km from Novi Vinodolski. The sea is very clear and especially suitable for sports fishing and underwater activities. This place is suitable for guests who seek to find a quiet Mediterranean atmosphere. Klenovica – Krmpote
Klenovica is mentioned in the 17. st. as a settlement of Krmpoćan's. It is located on the far southeast side part of Novi Vinodolski. Here live about 400 people of which many are outstanding fishermen. The part of Klenovice – Krmpota is a direct contrast of the grey, mountain massive and the mild Mediterranean climate. West of Klenovica is the bay Žrnovnica with a rich supply of good drinking water, from which the whole county is supplied with water.

Smokvica – Sibinj
Has good acommodation capacity in private housing and a camp in Sibinj. Stands out with extremely beautiful beaches.

Ledenice
Ledenice were for centuries the watchtower at the entry to the Vinodolska valley. Located 8km southeast of Novi Vinodolski it lays on a grassy plateau. In the 16th century the fort and its walls were very important for the coastal area in their defense from the Turks. At the beginning of the 18th century the old Ledenice city lost its importance and became deserted, and beneath the fort sprouted todays village. Today Ledenice with the surrounding places; D. American TV network CNN was right to announce at the beginning of the year that Croatia would this summer be one of the most desirable destinations for famoust stars of the world. In support of this announcement are definitely the photographs of Hollywood actress Eva Longoria dancing and one of the best tennis players of all time, John McEnroe at Stradun in Dubrovnik. The Croatian coast and islands are visited each year by more and more famous guests.

Some of them did not hide their enthusiasm about Croatia, like Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world who recommended Croatia as one of the ideal places for a holiday in Forbes magazine. The founder of Microsoft and his family visited Skradin, a town in central Dalmatia and the National Park Krka.

Eva Longoria and her husband, the famous NBA player Tony Parker and friends, amongst which were actors Amaury Nolasco and Jennifer Morrison, cruised the coast and visited Mali Lošinj, Zadar, Kornati, Šibenik, Skradin, Trogir, Split and Hvar, where they, judging by the photos published by the world's media, had an amazing time. They also ended up in a club in Vodice called Hacienda, where they held the «DJ Cut Killer and Tony Parker Show». They also visited Dubrovnik, which is the place visited by most celebrities. Amongst them was also the famous American actor Morgan Freeman, the guest of honor at the Dubrovnik Film Meeting Festival, which has been organized in the past few years in collaboration with the Sarajevo Film Festival. In the past few years Gillian Anderson, Mickey Rourke, Steve Buscemi and Kevin Spacey were also among those who visited.

Even at the beginning of the season, walking the streets of Dubrovnik were the world's most famous flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, the tv crime show star Dennis Franz and former German chancelor Gerharda Schroedera.

The first days of summer were spent in Croatia by the Hollywood couple Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, who arrived in Dubrovnik from Rome.

This year's Libertas film festival was marked by the new acting star Gabourey Sidibe, who was nominated for an Oscar for her first role in the movie Precious. At the opening of the festival there were many more famous faces to be seen, like the Czeck film director and Oscar winner Jiřij Menzel and one of the most productive film makers of Hollywood, Dantea Spinottija.

Dubrovnik was also host to a charity tennis match between Wimbledon winner Goran Ivanišević and one of the best tennis players of all time Johna McEnroea, who was accompanied by his wife Patty Smyth and their children.

The second ranked tennis player, Novak Đoković was having a good time in Split, and also spending his summer in Croatia after seven years, was the French handball representatives, who has Croatian roots, Nikola Karabatić. He visited his relatives in Poljice, close to Trogir, visited Dubrovnik and went to a concert in Primošten.

Some of the musical greats didn't only come to Croatia for a holiday but also for performaces, either individual of as part of the many summer festivals.

Concerts in Zadar were held by Seal and the soul-jazz diva Natalie Cole.

Because of the Garden festival, one of the best European summer events, a samll fishing village Petrčane next to Zadar was visited by many stars of electronic music such as Hercules & Love Affairs, 2020 Soundsystem, Crazy P, Dave Bee-ar, Tristan Da Cunha, Horse Meat Disco, DJ Stu Patterson, Greg Wilson, Norman Jay i Henrik Schwarz.

The Garden festival is highly ranked in the second position of the best summer festivals according to a leading European on-line magazine for electronic music Resident Advisor, while the British The Times last year included it amongst the twenty best European summer festivals, not just because of the choice of musicians but also because of the special location on the penninsula Pinija in Petrčani and the pine woods close to the sea.

Opatija, the old lady of Croatian tourism is a well known tourist destination, which was used by the Austro-Hungarian elite as an ideal holiday destination. But what is not so well known is that the Opatija hinterland has a lot to offer too. In order to revitalize the hinteland of Opatija, a historical path that leads from the centre of Opatija to the old core Veprinac has been opened. The walking path has been widened, tiled, the old stone parts fixed, new direction boards have been put up as well as benches for resting and educational boards in four languages that explain the history and the trail towards Veprinac. This is a trail that has been used in the past by the locals on a daily basis, by which they would reach the shore where they would trade their products. Today, it serves for a pleasant walk, an escape from the city bustle and enjoyment of untouched nature.

The renewal of the path to Veprinac is part of a project that aims to constuct a net of trails on the slopes of Učka, which connect a number of native settlements as well as pass through beautiful natural landmarks. If you visit Baška, a popular tourist center on the island of Krk, in 2009, you will be able to enjoy the diverse cultural project called Sarcen glagoljaj or Speak With Your Heart, in addition to the beautiful nature, sea, gastronomy and the rich offer. As it happens, this year in Baška will be marked by the Glagolitic script, an old Slavic script created in the 9th century and originating from the island of Krk, which also has the most famous Croatian monument to the Glagolitic script.

They decided to proclaim the Year of the Glagolitic Script after the Baška Road of the Glagolitic Script was completed by mounting of the letter B at the very entrance to Baška. This is the 34th stone Glagolitic monument, which is the cause for the major celebration with participation of the students from Croatian, Slovenian, Austrian and Czech academies who took part in the mounting of the stone monuments. In addition to them, they expect representatives of numerous local, regional and national institutions and corporations that enabled the creation of the Road by their sponsorships. Starting from Easter, the Year of the Glagolitic Script will be marked by numerous professional, musical, artistic, sporting and other events. The logo of the Year of the Glagolitic Script will also be found on all newly printed promotional materials of the Baška Municipality Tourist Board, local hotels, travel agencies, restaurant menus, etc. The Glagolitic heritage will thus mark this year in both Baška and on the entire island of Krk. The most famous Croatian monument in the Glagolitic script is the Baška Tablet, a national cultural monument of the Croatian people. It is a Glagolitic inscription, a document carved in 13 lines of text, referring to a donation made by the Croatian King Zvonimir (1075–1089) to St. Lucy’s Church in Jurandvor where the Baška Tablet was found. Camp Slatina, operating with Jadranka kampovi headquartered in Mali Losinj, won a high award for innovative environmental protection ideas at a specialized camping fair in Lyon. The camp is situated in Martinscica on the island of Cres, and is known in both Croatian and international circles for its unique solutions, the most interesting among them being the Camping Cum Cane project.

The essence of it is in creation of coexistence between the guests arriving with their dogs and other guests staying in the same camp. Mutual tolerance is based on creation of conditions for dogs in the camp without interfering with other guests. This is enabled by the rules – all registered dogs must wear id tags, there is a designated toilet area and the dog owners must comply with the rules of hygiene in the camp. The camp also provides a dog shower area and a dog promenade. Camp Slatina also applies other innovative environmental protection solutions, while the introduction of the ISO 9001 standard, determining and implementing quality standards, and the ISO 14001 environmental protection standard, played an important role in the presentation of the award. The value added to this award is the fact that the camp award comes from the French travel market for the first time. As of this year, the rich facilities in the camp have been supplemented by additional ones such as bathroom facilities for children, diaperchanging area, family bathrooms for rent, ironing area and many other facilities.

16 January to 1 February, Croatia will host the 21st Men’s World Handball Championship Croatia 2009 to be held in several cities: Zagreb, Zadar, Split, Osijek, Varaždin, Porec and Pula. Sport halls, most of them multipurpose, are built for the occasion and will be opened during December, ready to receive the best handball players from the entire world.

As major sporting events like this always have a tourist angle, it is quite clear Croatia will present itself as an excellent host in this segment as well. The event was preceded by the Croatian Handball & Tourism Days in November, during which the Croatian tourist offer was presented in 13 countries participating in the championship, namely in the cities such as Budapest, Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Bucharest, Moscow, Warsaw, Belgrade, Madrid, Skopje, Paris, Frankfurt and Seoul. The presentation included press conferences, presenting the Croatian tourist offer to the invited guests and business partners with emphasis on the cities where matches will be played. This was also an opportunity to try the Croatian wine & gastro offer and see an entertainment program featuring prominent Croatian artists. The presentations were aimed to send a special invitation to business partners and guests and express a welcome to be felt by the athletes and guests in both the host cities and across the country.

Two true gastro artists from the small town of Kastav in Kvarner have recently proved the quality of Croatian gastronomy, especially the Mediterranean food, as well as the art and expertise of Croatian cooks. Nenad Kukurin, the owner of the popular Restaurant Kukuriku in Kastav, and Robert Klickovic, the chef in the same restaurant, won plenty of viewer favor and were pronounced the most successful in presentation of the Mediterranean cuisine in the popular La prova del cuoco show on the Italian TV channel RAI 1 in a gastro competition. Their victory in mid-September in Rome closed the gastro duel with the representatives of Syria and the popular duo from Kastav remained in the competition.

Needless to say, their success is a further contribution to presentation of Croatia as a destination having a rich gastro offer and confirmation of the Mediterranean cuisine, recommended by the experts of the World Health Organization as the healthiest. Nenad Kukurin is a representative of the fifth generation in his Restaurant Kukuriku in Kastav, in a family tradition of 117 years. Situated in the small town of Kastav surrounded by medieval walls on a 365-meter hill near Rijeka and Opatija, the restaurant has become a favorite for lovers of high-quality and nutritively harmonized, creatively prepared and served slow food.

Split won the Silver Flower of Europe award among a competition of almost six thousand candidates from twelve countries in the city category, while Novi Vinodolski has won the same award in the town category. The closing ceremony of the Golden Flower of Europe, arranged every year by the European Association for Flowers and Landscape, was held in Split, which was an additional reason for celebration.

While explaining the award presented to Split, Monika Hetsch, presdietn of the International Jury, pointed out that Split was a beautiful business & university center in Croatia, its beauty enhanced by the Marjan Park Forest. In addition to the positive ratings with respect of its landscape, the members of the International Jury were particularly impressed by the tidiness of Sustipan and Lovrinac. 24 candidates participated in the finals of this selection and Split won a total of 87.6 points out of one hundred. As stated in the explanation, Novi Vinodolski, winner of the Silver Flower in the town category, won the award for its splendid landscaping, commitment to tradition and a successful eco school. Novi Vinodolski has a tourist tradition of 130 years and is the center of the popular Vinodol Riviera having a total capacity of around 8000 accommodation units. This small town is distinctive for its  littoral architecture and its old town core. Around 2 million HRK was spent on landscaping this year. Opposite the historical part of the town are modern tourist facilities – hotels, campingsites, household activities and numerous catering facilities and sport & recreation centers attracting numerous tourists every year.
